[Updates Below] A group of activists hope to disrupt the Thanksgiving Day Parade today in response to the Ferguson grand jury verdict. The protest gained steam Wednesday via the #stoptheparade hashtag on Twitter. Already, at least a few people have been taken into custody, as you can see in the videos below. Police have also requested arrest wagons after protesters reportedly were "throwing airmail."

More well wishes from #NYPD at #stoptheparade.

As of 10 a.m., the NYPD told us they don't have any specific information about arrests yet. The Post, who refers to the activists as "anarchists" and "agitators," claims to have been privy to a meeting about the action in Union Square last night: "The police aren’t going to arrest us and they are not going to shoot us," said someone named Magick. "They’re walking right by us now with their heads down and their tails between their legs."

Cops wasted no time giving the Post an earful about the protesting this week: "Yes, they’re planning on crashing the parade," a law-enforcement source told them. “With this hands-off approach, it gives them free rein to do anything they want. It’s a free pass to act like a fool...They’re not going to be able to do at the parade what they did at the Brooklyn Bridge. What are they going to do, trample kids to stop a float?"

They also took this opportunity to use their favorite mouthpiece to anonymously bash Mayor de Blasio for allowing protesters to takeover various bridges and highways on Tuesday evening. "The brass didn’t want anyone caught on camera making arrests for fear that someone would scream something," one anonymous cop source said. "They also didn’t want to provoke anyone. They don’t want any more bad press, particularly with all these camera-crazy perps trying to get cops into trouble."

"How times have changed," another fumed. "Under [Ray] Kelly and [Mike] Bloomberg, this would never happen."

Happy Thanksgiving from #stoptheparade courtesy of the NYPD.

Update: Police have confirmed that multiple people have been arrested along the parade route, but can't say how many, nor what charges they may be hit with. We'll keep updating the post as the protest progresses.

Update: Police now say at least seven people have been arrested in the vicinity of 37th Street and 6th Avenue.

Update: The seven protesters—one woman and six men—were all arrested after they allegedly knocked over police barriers and tried to get into the parade near Herald Square. One of the men will receive a summons for disorderly conduct; the other six all were given desk appearance tickets.

No arrests were made when a group of 50 or so protesters staged a brief sit-in at Times Square.
