The police issued an Amber Alert this morning to find a four-year-old girl with Down syndrome who was apparently taken from her foster home by her biological mother.

According to the NYPD, Mia Olarte, 4, was last seen yesterday afternoon just before 5 p.m. at 170 Brown Place in the Bronx, during a supervised visit with her mother, Dora Olarte. Dora Olarte, who does not have custody with of Mia, then allegedly left the location with Mia.

Police released a photograph of Mia and Dora Olarte, describing Mia as 2'1" and 48 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. The girl was last seen wearing a pink shirt and grey pants. Dora Olarte, 48, is about 5'4" and 140 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair; she was last seen wearing a white shirt and blue jeans.

Mia reportedly requires medication and WCBS 2 reports, "Her mother has a history of mental health issues and there are allegations of abuse, authorities said."

The Amber Alert covers NYC and Long Island. Anyone with information in regards to this missing is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. Update: The police located Mia in Queens, and have charged Dora Olarte with custodial interference, acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17 and enticement of an individual under 16 by a relative.
