Two teenagers have been arrested in the shooting of a 12-year-old girl at a playground in the Rockaways yesterday afternoon.
According to an NYPD release, shortly before 5 p.m. police responded to a call of a shooting on the basketball court at Beach 59th and Shore Front Parkway; the responding officers found that the victim had been shot once in her left thigh, and saw the shooter fleeing the scene and jumping a fence. Cops canvassing the area for the suspect in a marked car found a man fitting the description standing with a girl on the corner of Beach 60th and Larkin, and police say he was handing her a weapon.

Dwight Henderson, 18, was charged with attempted second degree murder, assault, criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, and resisting arrest.
Geena Hill, 16, was charged with third degree criminal possession of a defaced weapon, and second degree criminal possession of a loaded firearm. Police recovered a loaded 9mm handgun from the pair. Both teens are Rockaway residents.
The victim was transported in stable condition to North Shore LIJ hospital. An NYPD spokesperson said that detectives are still determining what caused the dispute.
