Two police officers were shot while on duty at a public housing building on East 156th Street in the Bronx.
According to initial reports, one officer was grazed in the head while the other was shot in the leg around 8 p.m. The NYPD says that the officers are in stable condition:

NBC New York reports, "The officers, who are assigned to Police Service Area 7 -- the unit that patrols public housing within the NYPD's 40th and 42nd precincts -- were inside a NYCHA complex on East 156th Street when they were shot in a hallway, sources said."
At least one suspect is apparently in custody:

A press conference will be held at Lincoln Hospital at 9:40 p.m. Mayor Bill de Blasio will be there; he was already in the Bronx, giving the State of the City address.
Update: The NYPD said, "One suspect was found dead with an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound, several suspects in custody & 2 guns recovered."

Police Commissioner Bratton also Tweeted, "Proud of my officers, hopeful for their speedy recovery, grateful for the many expressions of concern and support on their behalf."
