Two people were shot near Cooper Square and Astor Place this morning. Update: Police believe the incident was a murder-suicide attempt.
The FDNY arrived to the scene at 7:55 a.m. and found two people, a man and a woman, with gunshot wounds. They were taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition.
The incident may be a murder-suicide.

Police, who said that the injured were "likely" to die, say the investigation is ongoing.
Update: Jerry Simo, who works in a nearby building, told DNAinfo, "He didn't say a word. He shot her in the chest both times. It was point-blank range. Her feet went in the air and she hit the floor."
Colbert Watson, a doorman nearby, saw the man shoot himself, "Then he popped himself. He fell sideways. His knees buckled."
