One person is dead and another in critical condition after two separate accidents on the west side of Manhattan this morning. The first collision happened around 6:45 a.m. on Central Park West and West 102nd Street, where an unidentified woman was crossing CPW when she was hit by the driver of a gray Nissan SUV heading north.
According to the NYPD press office, the unidentified woman was rushed to St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital, where she is likely to die. The driver of the SUV stayed at the scene and was not charged; the NYPD says "no criminality is suspected." A doorman at a nearby building tells DNAinfo, "I saw her on the floor in the middle of the street. The car had a dent on the hood. They picked her up and put her on the stretcher."
Hours later, near the intersection of West 73rd Street and Columbus Avenue, a 48-year-old delivery man was unloading a truck around 8:20 a.m. when he fell backwards into the street. The NYPD says he "banged his head" on a passing truck and was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital. No criminality is suspected here either. We'll update as more information becomes available.
