Police have apprehended two suspects in connection with a shooting in Coney Island on Sunday night, which left a 2-year-old girl in the hospital after she was shot in the leg. Dortch Devin, 17, was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing, while Vincent Carmona, 24, was charged with assault, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing and criminal trespassing.
Victim Jayleen Jones is in stable condition at Lutheran Hospital. Her aunt, Cyiesha Johnson, told the Daily News, "The bullet went in and out of her, so there's no surgery needed." Little Jayleen was riding her bike around 10 p.m. outside the O'Dwyer Gardens houses on Sunday night when she got caught in the violent crossfire. Another aunt said that she dove for cover, and heard at least eight shots. Police believe the shooting began as revenge for an earlier robbery outside a nearby deli.
