A Williamsburg family is in mourning today after a truck inadvertently ran over a little boy riding his red, yellow and blue tricycle. The tragic incident occurred just after 5:45 p.m. when a box truck leaving Arnold's Meats drove down the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Heyward Street. The truck swerved to avoid hitting another boy riding a trike and in doing so managed to hit four-year-old Moses Englender as his horrified mother looked on, according to police.

The driver reportedly drove about 200 feet before realizing Englender was caught under his vehicle and Moses was declared dead when paramedics arrived. Cops are investigating but it does not currently appear that any charges will be filed, as once he realized what had happened the presumably shaken driver remained at the scene.

This is exactly why our mother always told us not to play in the street.
