2005_06_crabbing.jpgA teenager almost drowned while crabbing with a friend in Brooklyn's Spring Creek. Alberto Cruz and a friend had managed to get a bucket of crabs in the creek, which is along the border of Brooklyn and Queens under the Belt Parkway, but was sucked into the muddy water. Cruz, who couldn't swim, was underwater, was recovered by emergency services, and is being kept alive by a ventilator. There are always a few tragic incidents of people drowning because they can't swim; we wonder if the city could do more to encourage people to take up offers for free swimming lessons at city pools.
