The NYPD has disappeared the SkyWatch tower from Tompkins Square Park before it could become the focal point of a protest sleepover next weekend.

According to EV Grieve, the tower was gone by 9 a.m. today, after being up for just a week.

Surely the tower's removal marks the end of a serious threat to public safety that demanded a commensurate amount of public resources, and not the realization that the New York Post had momentarily tired of demonizing the homeless.
