One of the many stories from the blackout is how New Yorkers (as well as anyone else affected by a power outage, whether last Thursday or last month) have had to throw away all perishable foods. Gloria Vittorio of Brooklyn tells the Daily News, as she threw out 40 pounds of raw meat and potato salad, "I guess if I wanted to kill off my family, I could serve them this, but I kind of like the mopes."
Newsday says that the Department of Health is concerned by the rising number of cases of diarrhea lately. Gothamist read the DOH"s press release about food safety and we do like the DOH's "If in doubt, throw it out!" slogan. That can apply to so many things in our lives besides blackout food: Magazines, last year's fashion trend, people.
