The FDNY and NYPD pulled off a dramatic rescue this morning after three window washers were suddenly clinging to life on a scaffolding that broke outside a building, 15 stories above 65th Street street. Newsday scored a stunning photo of the rescue, which shows rescuers pulling a worker inside the building from the almost completely vertical scaffolding as another holds on for dear life.
According to the official NYPD Twitter, "NYPD ESU rappelled from roof to window washers hanging from broken scaffold at 17th floor, rescued three." An FDNY spokesman tells us one worker was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, and all three are in good condition. It's unclear what caused the accident, which occurred outside a building at E. 65th St. and Third Ave, but we'll update as more info becomes available.
In the meantime, just feast your eyes on that Newsday photo and try not to sweat profusely!
