Three men are wanted for beating up an off-duty police officer in Midtown early Saturday morning.

According to an NYPD release, the victim, a 42-year-old man, was walking down West 49th Street towards 9th Avenue shortly after midnight when one of the suspects jumped out in front of him "in a fighting stance." The victim tried to walk past him, when the other two suspects appeared and began punching him in the head.

The victim was transported to Roosevelt Hospital, where he was treated for a cut to his head.

Police told CBS that the victim was an off-duty cop. When we inquired about the victim's status as a police officer with the department's press office, Sergeant Lee Jones told us, "We don't confirm people's employment."
