It turns out that NYC pharmacies are supposed to have signs up saying they do not carry the morning-after pill, but many do not. A law was passed last year by the City Council, requiring the sign so women wouldn't have to ask pharmacists if they carried them, plus "the city can fine pharmacies up to $700 for not posting a sign" though the city hasn't issued any tickets over the matter yet. Only 55% of the the city pharmacies carry emergency contraceptive pills. Gothamist goes the pharmacy often (our favorite hobby after Law & Order, BBQ, and pandas: hypochondria) but didn't realize that pharmacies carried them - it seems to be an hospital or clinic thing. It's certainly a philosophical issue that we'll keep in mind for next year's elections as well.
