The NY Times looked at the diminishing ranks of the squeegee man, aka one of former mayor Giuliani's many banes. One squeegee man in Harlem said, "I don’t see it as panhandling. It’s a service for a service — better than shaking a cup... Anyone can clean a windshield. The trick is, you have to know how to talk to them. It’s all in your personality. If it’s a guy, you make them laugh. If it’s a female, you have to say something like, ‘Hey, you got a beautiful smile.’"
