A deliveryman on a bicycle wound up on a misguided trip through the Lincoln Tunnel on Tuesday night, after he said his phone app steered him into the cars-only tube.

Port Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo tells Gothamist the cyclist, who was trying to deliver someone's dinner, pedaled into the tunnel on the Manhattan side and made it all the way to the New Jersey side of the tunnel, where he was stopped by police around 7:30 p.m.

According to Pentangelo, the man, a 26-year-old Jersey City resident, told officers he wound up in the tunnel because his phone app directed him to do so. And he clearly had no choice but to obey the app, because the Machine always knows where it is going:

The deliveryman showed Port Authority police his phone app, which backed up his app assertion, Pentangelo confirmed. Fortunately no one was injured, and the man was issued a summons for trespassing and released. The app developer was not charged.

Bicycles are prohibited in the Lincoln Tunnel. So is masturbating, driving a bus while masturbating, and running through the tunnel wearing camouflage to make a television appearance.
