We've encountered our fair share of terrible smells, from foul Columbia B-School students to garbage-flavored campaign brochures, yet it's pretty rare for a smell to be so bad as to require hospitalization. But a noxious concoction of cough medicine and some as yet unknown substance caused just that at Frederick Douglass Academy VIII in Brooklyn. Eleven children and two adults were hospitalized after sniffing the strange fumes. Could the other substance have been Isonitriles, the "Godzilla of odors"? Or might it be that elusive aroma which has haunted Lynyrd Skynyrd ever since the late-1970s?
