Yesterday, the NYPD warned New Yorkers about a group of teens who terrorized a number of Brooklyn women on Friday morning, by grabbing their butts or breasts while riding by on their bicycles. After we reported on it, one reader emailed us to say, "Thank you for your article. These punks got at least one more woman than you have listed — me."
Police released video from one of the incidents on Adams Street:
The 37-year-old woman tells us, "I didn’t report it when it happened (on Friday at 9 a.m., on Flatbush and Prospect Place) because the kids went by so fast on their bikes that I couldn’t see anything other than that there were four of them, and I figured it was unlikely they’d get caught. Once I saw that this was happening repeatedly, that the time and place were clearly consistent with my having been assaulted by the same group, and it was the same number of kids, I realized it was time to speak up."
Here's how the police describe the other incidents:
1) On Friday, July 10, 2015, at 7:50 p.m., the victim, a 33-year-old female, was walking in the vicinity opposite 122 Tillary Street, within the confines of the 84 Precinct, when the suspects rode up on their bicycles and grabbed her buttocks and breasts. There were no reported injuries.
2) On Friday, July 10, 2015, at 7:55 p.m., the unknown female victim was walking into a diner located at 234 Adams Street, within the confines of the 84 Precinct, when one of the suspects rode up, grabbed her buttocks and fled. There were no reported injuries.
3) On Friday, July 10, 2015, at 8:30 p.m., the victim, a 31-year-old female, was walking in the vicinity of 625-627 Bergen Street, within the confines of the 78 Precinct, when one of the suspects rode up on his bicycle and grabbed her buttocks. There were no reported injuries.
4) On Friday, July 10, 2015, at 9:10 p.m., the victim, a 29-year-old female, was walking in the vicinity of 5 Avenue and Flatbush Avenue, within the confines of the 84 Precinct, when one of the suspects rode up on his bicycle and grabbed her buttocks. There were no reported injuries.
The victim who contacted us was headed to the Bergen Street 2/3 subway to get to work. She says, "I reported the incident (one of the boys spanked me on the buttocks, hard, as they rode past) to the 78th Precinct this afternoon, and I’m hoping that between the security video and the media attention, these jerks will get caught."
Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
And the police encourage anyone who thinks they've witnessed—or experienced—a crime to tell the police, whether an officer at the station, at a precinct or by calling 911. When discussing a different incident, Sgt. Paul Grattan said the police "can't rely on one person to make the report—if 50 people are calling 911, then we'll have better descriptions" of suspects, he said, and investigators have a better shot piecing together what happened.
