A 15-year-old girl jumped into the Hudson River near the USS Intrepid in Hell's Kitchen on Sunday and was quickly rescued by an unidentified man who leaped in after her—proof, once again, that Good Samaritans do exist in this city.

The girl took her plunge near Pier 84 at 46th Street around 2:40 p.m., followed almost immediately by the 53-year-old passerby, said witnesses. The fire department arrived a few minutes later and found the two sitting atop a piling under the pier, relatively unscathed. An FDNY boat took the teen back to shore, where she was taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

The man climbed a ladder provided by Ladder 21 up to the pier and left without sustaining any injuries. Witnesses told DNAinfo that the girl and the man were both only in the water for "a short time," though it remains unclear exactly why the girl jumped in to begin with.
