A teenager boy originally arrested as a juvenile for the beating of a Mexican immigrant in the Port Richmond area of Staten Island was charged as an adult yesterday. Derrian Williams, a Liberian native, was originally thought to be 15, was to be prosecuted in Family Court. But the Staten Island District Attorney said investigators discovered Williams was actually 17, and he was indicted as an adult yesterday on charges of robbery, assault and harassment as a hate crime.

Williams was asked to surrender his passport, and could spend up to 25 years in prison. However, four other suspects remain at large for the attack of victim Christian Vasquez, a member of an anti-bias youth group. Vasquez previously said the attack happened "because [he's] Mexican," and that if the group were after his money, "they would have asked for it."
