Police are investigating the murder of a green outer-borough taxi driver, whose body was found in his vehicle earlier this morning on a Bronx Street.

According to the NYPD, officers responded to a 911 call about an assault near East 189th Street and Beaumont Avenue around 1:26 a.m. They found a green Lincoln Town car, with Barry Mamadou, 39, shot in the head in the driver's seat. EMS pronounced Mamadou dead at the scene.

WABC 7 reports that Mamadou "had been driving for 12 years, and talked about the dangers of driving on the job, his family says. He made a phone call moments before his death, saying the man he had picked up had a gun."

His brother said that Mamadou and his wife have three children and were expecting another; he told WCBS 2, "I don’t know why this happened. Taxi drivers never have a lot of money — maybe only like $50 or $100. You killed him for a couple of dollars."
