An elderly man was fatally struck by an SUV driver while crossing the street on the Upper East Side last night.

According to cops, 89-year-old John Torson was hit by a 56-year-old woman driving a Lexus L57 as she turned left onto East 61st Street from 1st Avenue around 7:20 p.m. According to a preliminary investigation, Torson was crossing East 61st Street outside of the marked crosswalk, from north to south.

The driver, who remains unidentified, stayed at the scene. She told the Post Torson "just hobbled into the middle of the street. I did my best to put on the brake, but he ran into my car,” she added. “I feel bad for him. I hope he’s okay. But I’m so worried.”

Torson was taken to Cornell Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made, but the NYPD says the investigation is ongoing.
