A 4-year-old girl was struck by the driver of a Honda SUV while crossing the street with her mother in Canarsie last night. She is reportedly in critical condition.

According to an NYPD spokeswoman, the driver was headed north on East 84th Street around 8:30 p.m. last night when she took a left onto Avenue L, and struck a 4-year-old girl crossing the avenue with her mother.

The child was transported to Kings County Hospital. One witness tells the Daily News the girl "was conscious and crying after being hit and was carried into an ambulance by her mother."

"They were right in front of me. I didn't see them it was so dark," the driver told police. She stayed on the scene, and as of this morning, no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.

According to Vision Zero's crash tracker, last night marked the first traffic collision at Avenue L and East 84th in 2015. Eight drivers have been injured at intersections along Avenue L between East 80th and East 87th this year to date.
