An ex-con who was suspected of shooting a two-year-old girl outside of the O'Dwyer Gardens Houses in Coney Island was fatally shot last night. Vincent Carmona, 24, was one of two men arrested for assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon after Jayleen Jones got caught in the crossfire of their gunfight with another group on July 25th. One family member told the Daily News, "It's obvious it was revenge."

Carmona was released without bail on July 31st, but has a long rap sheet that includes 22 arrests for things like drug possession, robbery and larceny. He was shot three times, once in the neck and twice in the chest, yesterday afternoon at West 32nd Street and Mermaid Avenue. He was pronounced dead at Lutheran Medical Center. Jones is reportedly recovering well from her injuries.
