Police arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with two rapes in the Rockaways last month. The Daily News reports that DNA evidence linked Malcolm Johnson to the crimes. He was charged with "rape, sexual assault, robbery, unlawful imprisonment and criminal possession of a weapon."

In attacks on October 27 and October 28, a man threatened women with a gun and raped them—one in an alleyway and another in an apartment building. According to the News, the suspect "wore latex gloves and condoms. A condom was recovered near both scenes, a law enforcement source said." The DNA matched Johnson's, whose DNA was in the system for previous offenses. He was arrested in his home, where police also found illegal guns.
