A felon has been arraigned for supplying the weapon to the assailants that killed 18-year-old basketball standout Tayshana Murphy in her Harlem apartment building early Sunday morning. Witnesses say 24-year-old Terique Collins, who was on parole for a previous weapons charge and selling crack to undercover officers, passed the gun to the suspects shortly before Murphy was killed. Sources tell DNAinfo that he denies being involved.
Though only a single bullet was found in Collins's apartment, he's being held on $250,000 bond. "There is no gun," his attorney said in court earlier today, "This is a bad gun case at best." Police are still looking for Murphy's alleged killers, 20-year-old Robert Cartagena and 21-year-old Tyshawn Brockington. Authorities believe that Murphy was shot over a long-running feud between residents of her public apartment complex, the Grant Houses, and the nearby Manhattanville Houses.
