A woman walking in Gravesend was brutally beaten by a mugger who stole her cell phone early Thursday morning. The NYPD has released a sketch of the suspect, who approached the woman at approximately 1 a.m. as she walked near Avenue W and Lake Street. According to investigators, the perp "repeatedly punched her in the face, knocked her to the ground and removed her Samsung Galaxy cell phone before fleeing." Here's security camera video of the incident:

"The first thing I saw was a punch," the 36-year-old victim, identified only as Sara, told ABC 7. "He took my phone after the first or second punch, grabbed it from my hand, but he just proceeded to beat my face with all of his might, aiming punches like a boxer." Asked if she was fighting back, Sara said she resisted "with the best of my ability, I was protecting my face from a rain of punches."

The NYPD announced that the victim "sustained bruising to her face, back and knees as a result of this incident." She says the mugger beat her for over a minute, and says she feared for her life. "He had no emotional response on his face, no anger, no rage" during the assault, she told ABC 7.

The NYPD describes the suspect as 20-25 years old, 5'9" with a thin build. Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
