Good news! The cold front that was expected to very slowly crawl the region this weekend picked up its pace and scooted eastward overnight. Drier air has arrived behind the front and we should have a generally pleasant day with a high in the mid 80s. There is a chance of stray afternoon showers or thunderstorms but nothing like the 1-2 inches of widespread rain that was anticipated earlier in the week.

Speaking of a high in the mid 80s, yesterday's high of 86 was the 42nd straight day that it warmed to at least 80 degrees in Central Park, breaking the old record set in 2011. The ten-day forecast keeps us in the 80s through next weekend.

Tomorrow's mid 80s high will be accompanied by a mix of sun and clouds. Humidity and the chance for showers and thunderstorms returns on Sunday as the remnants of the cold front that passed last night gets pushed back eastward. More showers and thunderstorms are possible early next week as yet another slow moving cold front finally arrives from the Midwest.
