And in today's edition of elevators can be scary places and elevator shafts can be even scarier, we turn to Washington Heights. Around 8:40 a.m. this morning a superintendent at 602 West 190th Street was seriously injured when he went into the building's elevator shaft. Luckily, the accident does not appear to be fatal.

The super, whose name has not been released, was reportedly in the shaft trying to retrieve a set of keys that a tenant had dropped. But while he was down there the elevator above him, which was on either the fifth or sixth floor, moved and the counterweight struck him. Luckily emergency responders quickly got to the scene and took the man to Harlem Hospital, where he is reportedly in stable condition.
