A 60-year-old woman was killed by the driver of an electric motorcycle in East Harlem on Tuesday.
Anette Camaya, 60, was crossing Pleasant Avenue at 118th Street just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday when she was struck by the 34-year-old driver of a "2019 Wuxi Dongma Z6 electric scooter," according to police.
The victim, an East Harlem resident, was found unconscious in the street, and taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver remained on the scene and was not arrested.
Though police identified the vehicle as a scooter, Streetsblog notes that the 300-pound bike has far more in common with a motorcycle. The supplier describes its products as a "super power electric motorcycle."
Ten pedestrians have been killed by drivers so far this year, and a total of 23 people have died in crashes — a slight decrease from this time last year, according to NYPD data.
