On Saturday afternoon, 17-year-old was fatally shot on a sidewalk in the Soundview section of the Bronx. Londell Byrd was hanging out with some friends near his family's apartment on Noble Avenue when another man approached him. Witnesses say the shooter was Jimmy Delgado, 18, who had a spat with Byrd on Friday; one said, "It looked like he was going to give him a five. Then all of sudden you see Jimmy pull out a gun."

Witnesses and friends tried to revive Byrd, but the teen was pronounced dead at Jacobi Hospital. Byrd, described as a straight A student at Mount St. Michael Academy with hopes of being a CPA and called a "perfect kid", apparently had a confrontation with Delgado (described as a troublemaker) on Friday night: According to the Daily News, "The fight began with Delgado giving Byrd 'vicious stares' and ended when Byrd held Delgado's face in a puddle, they said. 'I guess Londell embarrassed him'" said one of the witnesses."

Delgado's mother told the News that her son wasn't answering his phone, but, "I don't believe he did this. It's very difficult for me to believe that my child did that." However, Byrd's grandmother is sure that Delgado was the shooter, telling the Post, "I saw Jimmy Delgado jump into a car and speed away with some of his friends. Then I looked up the street and saw my poor grandson, Londell, bleeding out into the street, lying still. I couldn't believe it. I was devastated. He was already dead. I can't believe this happened -- and in broad daylight." Byrd's mother was weeping when discussing her only child to the Wall Street Journal, "He was going to be somebody."
