In a wave of crime that has Port Richmond residents concerned, a Hispanic man was pummeled on Richmond Terrace on Wednesday evening. The assailants yelled anti-Mexican slurs at him, and left him with a bruised and swollen face. This has been the fifth bias attack in the borough since April, three of which have occurred in the Port Richmond area.
Police are investigating the attack, but so far no arrests have been made. The Department of Justice has also planned a town hall meeting Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Port Richmond CYO Center, where they hope members of the community will discuss the crimes and come up with ways to keep them from happening. City Councilwoman Debi Rose said, "This recurring pattern of bias or hate crimes, and just this senseless violence, has to stop...It’s gone beyond the time of standing together and singing ‘Kumbaya.’"
