What is with Staten Island and the drug busts today? A Staten Island NYPD officer was arrested yesterday for arranging to buy a buy a weekly, $40,000 stash of Ketamine, AKA "Special K," with the apparent intent to sell. Which raises the question: people are still doing Special K?
Officer Kifah Othman of Staten Island, who works at Brooklyn's 68th Precinct, was reportedly busted when he was caught on wire trying to arrange the sale, but there is no evidence he actually bought any drugs. He was released on $250,000 bail after being arraigned on narcotics-trafficking charges.
Ketamine has traditionally been used for induction and maintenance of general anesthesia in both human and veterinary medicine, but was popular among teenagers for its hallucinatory effects. The Post notes it's still all the rage at "teenage rave parties." Yes, could this bust be a sign of a rave renaissance?! We can't wait to break out the candy and pacifiers again.
