sidewalk_sherry_clock.jpgTwo years ago, in their infinite wisdom, Congress moved the start of Daylight Saving Time up three weeks to the second Sunday in March. That's tonight! Don't forget to adjust your clocks forward one hour before you go to bed. The reason for the date switch was to save energy.

The jury is out on whether or not the date switch will save energy, but some people are worried that the change will cause problems in networked computer systems. There shouldn't be a problem with home computers, Gothamist installed a software update to our MacBook a couple of weeks ago, but networks with a mix of old and new equipment may have some issues.

This is also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Following the tragic fire in the Bronx, in a building without working smoke detectors, Mayor Bloomberg and Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta announced that the FDNY will be distributing 170,000 free batteries around the city. The Firemen's Association of the State of New York also recommends dusting or vacuuming detectors to keep them dust free.
