This morning, Capital New York reported that Lis Smith, current girlfriend of married (though separated) former governor Eliot Spitzer, was no longer working for Mayor de Blasio's transition. And someone at the Post is feeling smug—or perhaps a little wistful over the loss of future front page headlines.

De Blasio chief of staff Laura Santucci told Capital, "Lis was contracted to work with our team through the transition. She did exemplary work and we are grateful for the support she provided. Now that the transition is concluding, she is returning to her work as a political consultant." Which means working for the Democratic Governors Association and Maryland governor Martin O’Malley. However, it had been suggested she was in line to work in the mayor's press office at City Hall.

Smith, 31, had been spokeswoman for Spitzer, 54, during his failed comptroller campaign last year. The Daily News and Post revealed their romance (the News broke it; the Post had photos of Spitzer skulking around in sweats) just before Christmas. Then they focused on how Spitzer went to Smith's family's Bronxville home on Christmas Day. Finally De Blasio was forced to comment on the situation at one of his press conferences, telling reporters, "I respect Lis as a professional but I also respect her right to privacy. I think I’m getting my message out just fine."

Smith will reportedly continue to live in NYC. But she's on vacation now:
