Our mother always told us to look carefully before exiting a car, and this is why. A five-year-old Staten Island boy was hit by a police car yesterday afternoon while on his way to soccer practice with his mother. It seems the cruiser hit him on the street after he'd exited a car. Police aren't saying how fast the cruiser was going, but they do say that it had its lights flashing and siren sounding at the time.
Luckily the little boy appears to be okay—he was taken to Richmond University Hospital with minor cuts and bruises, according to authorities. But it is remarkable that was the sum of his injuries: According to one witness, “He must have gone 30 feet before a fence stopped him and he was laying there bleeding from his head.”
And here, folks, we have one little boy who will always know where he was when Staten Island turned 350.
