2006_03_sesb.jpgApparently working in the Empire State Building doesn’t hold the cache it used to. According to the Daily News, the vacancy rate in the building has risen to 18% from 1.7% in 2000. To make matters worse, they are asking 25% less per square foot, $48, than most of the average rents in midtown.

While we understand why people aren’t eager to sign a deal with the “Queen of Mean” Gothamist doesn’t want to see the building revert to the “Empty” State Building, so we have some ideas for prospective tenants. Since King Kong climbed to the top of it, why not a Discovery Store in the bottom? Lots of movies have been filmed there, so how about a Blockbuster? For now, you can always go there and catch up on your sleep.
