The motorcyclist killed in SoHo yesterday afternoon after colliding with a minivan has been identified.
32-year-old Larry Olavarria—a member of the Lost Boyz motorcycle club—was riding east on West Houston Street around 4:20 p.m. when he reportedly ran a red light and slammed into the driver's side of a green Chrysler Voyager with New Jersey plates, DNAinfo reports. The driver, who was uninjured, remained at the scene and has not been charged.
Chanel Secreto was sitting at the window of a nearby Starbucks when the crash occurred. She said the sound of the impact caused her to look up, and what she saw was horrifying. "I saw the bike hitting the van. I saw him fly off the bike into the air, flip a couple times and hit the ground," she said. "I wasn’t even that close, but I could see blood."
Secreto called 911, and said the ambulance arrived around four minutes later. She said she thought about going over to the man, but decided against it when she saw the reactions of other bystanders. "A few people rushed over to him, and I imagine it looked pretty bad—I saw a couple people turn away," she said.
"I felt like I was watching a movie. It was the worst thing I've seen."
