A man walking home on Smith Street yesterday morning was shot after refusing to give up his necklace to two men. The victim had been walking on Brooklyn's restaurant row near Wyckoff Street at around 6AM, which makes it sound like it was near the Boat Bar, not to mention many other establishments. The victim was taken to Bellevue - he's in stable condition now. The Daily News reports that he recognized his attackers, who did take his necklace, from the Wyckoff Gardens Houses. There's also a quote from one longtime resident, who said, "I moved here back in 1981 when it was Dodge City. Shootings like this happened a lot, but there hasn't been one in years. I hope this is an isolated thing and not a sign that the bad days are coming back." Gothamist imagines the restaurant, bar and shopowners will be calling upon the police to patrol more.
