"Skeletal remains" were found in a basement crawl space of a Stapleton building yesterday, after a resident pumped out Tropical Storm Irene-induced floodwaters. Police say the squirm-inducing discovery was made yesterday afternoon at 70 Broad St, but didn't comment further on the origins or age of the bones. A medical examiner will investigate the bones further to decide whether they once belonged to a human.

If they did indeed, it won't be the first time gruesome remains have been uncovered in a Staten Island basement: in 2009, a mummified corpse was found decomposing in the basement of a different Stapleton building. Paging Stephen King: we have scouted the location of your next book.
