A 25-year-old skateboarder was killed in a collision with an MTA bus shortly before 1 a.m. this morning. According to the NYPD's preliminary investigation, the unidentified man was headed southbound on Rockaway Parkway when he collided with the rear of the bus, which was traveling east on East New York Avenue in Brownsville, near the Crown Heights border. The MTA says that after hitting the bus, the skateboarder fell underneath and was "struck by the left rear tires."

The victim, whose identity is being withheld pending family notification, was pronounced DOA at Kings County Hospital. Police sources tell the Daily News the bus driver had the right of way and was passing through a green light at the moment of impact. (This assertion is not found in the NYPD's official statement to the media.) The investigation is ongoing, but at this time there are no charges against the driver.
