An 18-year-old in Gravesend was fatally struck by an SUV driver on Sunday afternoon while skateboarding, police say. The SUV was reportedly later found a couple miles away in Bath Beach.

According to police, officers responded to a 911 call about a collision near West 10 Street and Avenue T and found an "18-year-old male, unconscious and unresponsive, lying on the roadway at the location." The incident occurred around 3:10 p.m.

Surveillance footage shows the incident:

The victim, identified as Alejandro Tello, was taken to Maimonides Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The NYPD says that its Highway Collision Investigation Squad found that Tello was "struck by a white BMW SUV turning southbound on West 10 Street from Avenue T as he rode a skateboard along Avenue T. The vehicle then fled the scene."

Tello lived a few blocks away from the crash scene.

A nearby resident was angry the driver fled, telling WCBS 2, "It’s inhumane to not even check on a person to see if they’re OK."

On Friday night, a 25-year-old man was killed when he chased his loose skateboard into a Queens street and an MTA bus hit him. The driver was not charged.
