Even in spite of the at-times-pouring rain, shoppers flocked to stores yesterday to take advantage of big sales—and perhaps return some Christmas gifts. With items on sale for 60-75% off, there were deals, but only if you could find the products. One woman told 1010WINS that she had been eyeing $11.99 pajamas at a JC Penney before Christmas, "Now there's nothing. Everything's been picked over."

That's because stores, mindful of the economy this year, carefully managed their inventory and made sure they wouldn't have too much excess stock. Still, the Daily News reports that the Macy's in Herald Square was packed. A Bay Ridge resident was happy her husband bought her some Lancome Tresor perfume for Christmas, but he actually bought her some last year too—"I love the perfume, but I have it already"—so she was returning it. And Queens woman honestly explained why she was at a Queens mall early to WCBS 2, "I'm a kind of cheap person, I always have to get sales and stuff."

Also, tourists really love the sales: A Canadian woman said, "The sales here are crazy. We have to go to the hotel, drop our bags, and come back for more."
