Over the years we've had lots of reasons to love the folks over at the Red Cross, but this map is a great example of just how much the organization does for our fair metropolis.

Yup, what you see right there is every disaster the Red Cross responded to in the five boroughs in 2011 in one handy map. Want more detail? Over here you can see the same 2012 responses, helping 13,663 residents, mapped out—and you can also look at them by disaster type (i.e. fires, hazardous materials, partial building collapses). Want to help the Red Cross keep doing what it does so well? They've got lots of volunteer and donation opportunities. And they really don't just need your help after emergencies.
