The de Blasio transition team announced today that they're releasing 1,000 free tickets to his inauguration to the general public, starting NOW. De Blasio will be sworn into office on January 1st at high noon, in City Hall Plaza. Following the oath of office, Vampire Weekend will perform a rockin' rendition of "All That Blaz," a jaunty riff on Ebb & Kander's classic show tune "All That Jazz." There will be no entertainment.

Tickets are being distributed now via the Internet on a first-come, first-served basis. According to the de Blasio announcement:

“We are excited to announce this opportunity for New Yorkers from across the city to attend the Inauguration," said Gabrielle Fialkoff, the event's chair. “Mayor-elect de Blasio is committed to ensuring that this is truly an event for all New Yorkers, that's why 1,000 tickets will be available to the public. In addition, the Mayor-elect will greet the event's attendees in City Hall following the ceremony and Gracie Mansion will be open for anyone and everyone to visit on January 5th. Inauguration 2014 will be one of the most open and accessible events of its kind in New York City's history.”

Following the swearing in, Mayor-elect de Blasio and future First Lady Chirlane McCray will greet attendees in City Hall. New Yorkers will have an additional opportunity to meet their new Mayor four days later at an open house at Gracie Mansion for several hours on January 5th.
