A rookie cop accidentally shot himself while responding to a domestic dispute call in Brooklyn last night. The 26-year-old officer, who hasn't been identified, had gotten a report of a young mentally ill man attacking his mother in their Bed-Stuy apartment just before 8 p.m. Saturday when the incident happened. The cop had drawn his gun during a confrontation with the man, and was re-holstering it when he shot himself in the leg. “It was an accidental discharge,” a source told the News.
Neighbors claim that the mother had been beaten up badly by her son: “I saw a lot of blood on her face,” one neighbor told the News. “She got her ass whooped.” There was also a block party going on in the neighborhood at the time of the shooting, but no one else was injured.
The assailant was charged in the assault on his mother. The officer, who had been on the streets for only a year, was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he is in stable condition. Thankfully, nobody at the block party did a "Plaxico Burress Nightclub Shooting" touchdown celebration.
