Hugues-Denver Akassy, the Ivory Coast native who claimed in court to be an irresistible ladies man, was convicted today of raping one woman and harassing three others. However, the self-described journalist was acquitted of a fifth attack. Akassy now faces a possible 25 years behind bars for his role as the "Riverside Rapist."

Akassy was arrested last year for raping a Russian woman during a picnic date in Riverside Park. That woman did not testify in court, but a travel agent testified during the the two week trial that Akassy forced her to give him oral sex after she took him to the rooftop of her East Side apartment building in November 2007. When Akassy described his romance with the latter woman he said he met her in Central Park when he saw her smoking a cigarette while he was enjoying a solo wine and cheese picnic: "It's a shame you try to destroy that beautiful body with a smoke," Akassy said he told the woman. Later on, he dropped the line, "All we do is just the oral things. Why don't we just make love now?"

During the trial, prosecutors argued that Akassy, 43, charmed the women with a debonair demeanor and a phony persona before going nuts and becoming "a sexually aggressive stalker." In her closing arguments Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Jessica Troy told jurors, "What we're talking about here is a person who initiates every relationship in his life with a falsehood. And I submit to you, there is no reason to think he is honest about anything."

Looks like Akassy's rough times in jail are about to get rougher.
