Former DJ and radio personality Dave Herman is in serious hot water this week, with investigators alleging he tried to send a 7-year-old girl from New Jersey to the Virgin Islands so he could have sex with her; an undercover law enforcement officer says Herman told him, "Age 6 is the perfect time to start her being loved that way."
The 77-year-old Herman is the former host of popular radio show The Dave Herman Rock and Roll Morning Show, which ran for 27 years until his retirement. He now splits his time between Airmont, N.Y. and St. Croix; it was while he was living in the latter in November 2012 that he allegedly began an online communication with "Kris," a woman he believed was the mother of a 7-year-old Bergen County girl named "Lexi."
According to authorities, Herman had multiple phone and online conversations with "Kris," who was really an undercover officer, about sending the fictional Lexi to St. Croix so they could engage in sexual activity. "Age 6 is the perfect time to start her being loved that way,” he allegedly told the officer. “I find girls that age incredibly sexy, soft, and their innocence is also a huge turn on for me." Prosecutors allege Herman told the officer that he wanted to "break" Lexi's hymen, and that he would be "forceful" but not hurt her; he allegedly suggested he and Kris give the girl alcohol to relax her," and told the officer he planned to "do a lot of 'oral' with her."
Officials say Herman paid for plane tickets to transport Lexi and her mother from La Guardia airport to St. Croix this Thursday; he was arrested at the St. Croix airport this morning and is scheduled to appear tomorrow before a judge in St. Croix federal court. He was charged with interstate transport of a minor for sex and faces 10 years to life in prison if convicted, along with a $250,000 fine.
