It doesn't look like we'll be seeing a Christie/Booker showdown in New Jersey after all. Though Newark's "rockstar mayor" Cory Booker has not been shy about his interest in running the state of New Jersey, multiple news outlets are now saying he won't be running against popular governor Chris Christie in 2013 after all. Booker is expected to announce his decision on Twitter later today.
But just because the media-friendly Booker probably isn't running for Governor doesn't mean the two-term mayor isn't eying higher office. Instead the conventional wisdom is now that Booker is going to shoot to take over Democrat Frank Lautenberg's seat in the Senate in 2014. According to the Star-Ledger:
the mayor was preparing to call the likes of George Norcross, Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo and state Senate President Stephen Sweeney (D-Gloucester) to inform them of his decision. Sources also said the mayor had made his decision within the past week after months of deliberation.
While we wait for Booker to announce his decision, below is how the mayor started his morning tweets. Read into it what you will!
Life is about purpose not popularity, significance not celebrity. If u have no detractors, critics or adversaries ur probably not doing much
