Yesterday, New York and the world remembered the events of September 11, 2001. There were services and memorials all over New York, and children and relatives of victims read the names of those lost aloud at Ground Zero.
And the Tribute in Light was recreated. Co-director of Tribute, a documentary about the light memorial (see a clip here) , Jayson Haedrich, told us how during its initial 2002 run, the lights would go out at 11PM, but on the final day, the lights stayed on, disappearing into the morning dawn. Gothamist loved the idea of that image, the light, having acted as maybe a connection to the heavens, then becoming one with the heavens.
